How the result is calculated
The calculator validates the required dates, units and range before producing a result. Keep the inputs and the selected convention with the output so another person can reproduce it.
Read all calculation conventionsHow to read your result
Keep the inputs and conventions beside the answer. These values explain what the result measures.
| Result field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Overlap count | The number of shared named dates under the selected endpoint convention. |
| First and last shared dates | The real overlap boundaries, shown only when the shared count is positive. |
| End-date choice | The same include-or-exclude rule applied to both input ranges. |
A shared endpoint depends on your convention
January 1–5 and January 5–10, 2027 share January 5 under inclusive date counting. With both end dates excluded, they have no shared dates.
Try the example in the calculator above. Change one input at a time and compare the target, interval and selected rules. For a longer explanation read Date Ranges: Overlap, Shared Endpoints and Midpoints.
Conventions to keep with your result
Each range uses the same endpoint convention. Date ranges count named calendar dates, not partial-day reservations. Enter timestamps in the time tools for hourly bookings.
