- Choose whether the final date belongs in the counted range.
- Calculate and read the signed total before the breakdown.
- Use the working-day tool if weekends or closures need to be excluded.
Compare two dates with calendar days, complete weeks and weekday counts. Choose whether to include the end date.
How the result is calculated
Signed results preserve the calculation’s direction. Read the sign before comparing its magnitude. Keep the inputs and the selected convention with the output so another person can reproduce it.
Read all calculation conventionsHow to read your result
Keep the inputs and conventions beside the answer. These values explain what the result measures.
| Result field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Calendar days | Signed midnight-to-midnight interval; include-end adds one named date in the range direction. |
| Complete weeks | Whole seven-day groups, with remaining days shown separately. |
| Calendar period | Completed year and month anniversaries plus remaining days. This is not a fixed-unit duration. |
Leap-day interval
February 28, 2028 to March 1, 2028 contains two elapsed calendar days. Including the end date counts three named dates.
Try the example in the calculator above. Change one input at a time and compare the target, interval and selected rules. For a longer explanation read How to Calculate Days Between Dates Without Off-by-One Errors.
Conventions to keep with your result
Complete weeks are seven-day groups. Calendar months and years use anniversaries. Day-equivalent hours are a conversion of date counts rather than elapsed local clock hours.
Days Between Dates: frequently asked questions
Why can the answer differ by one day?
Check whether the end date is included. An elapsed interval and an inclusive date count use different endpoint conventions.
Why is the result negative?
The end date is before the start date. The signed total preserves that direction.
Are complete months assumed to be 30 days?
No. They are measured with calendar anniversaries and month-end clamping.
