How to use days since

  1. Choose the date to compare with today.
  2. Confirm the calendar time zone shown at the top of the page.
  3. Calculate the signed calendar-day count.
  4. Copy the target and reference date with the result.

Count elapsed calendar days from a past date to today in the selected time zone.

How the result is calculated

Days until = target date − today; days since = today − target date

Signed results preserve the calculation’s direction. Read the sign before comparing its magnitude. Keep the inputs and the selected convention with the output so another person can reproduce it.

How to read your result

Keep the inputs and conventions beside the answer. These values explain what the result measures.

Result fieldMeaning
Signed daysThe calendar-day difference relative to the reference date shown in the result.
Reference dateToday in the selected date-only calendar time zone.
Complete weeksSeven-day groups within the absolute interval, with its extra days.
WORKED EXAMPLE

The reference date determines the direction

From January 1, 2027 to January 2 there is one day until. On January 2 there is one day since January 1. A target on the other side of today produces a negative signed count.

Try the example in the calculator above. Change one input at a time and compare the target, interval and selected rules. For a longer explanation read Inclusive Date Counting: When to Include the End Date.

Conventions to keep with your result

These are date-only intervals. They exclude exact hours and use the chosen calendar time zone. A personal timed deadline needs the live countdown tool.

Current dates keep moving forward. Today follows the selected calendar time zone. Rule-based Gregorian dates are generated for the requested year. A fixed input remains the visitor's chosen date. External holiday records require coverage for that year.

Days Since: frequently asked questions

Will today update next year?

Yes. The reference follows the current date in the chosen time zone, including later years.

Does this count today as a full remaining day?

It measures midnight boundaries between the dates. A target equal to today has zero elapsed days remaining.

Can a result be negative?

Yes. It indicates that the selected date lies on the opposite side of the reference from the requested direction.
