How to use time from now

  1. Enter complete start and end date-times or a duration as requested.

  3. Confirm the browser’s local time zone.
  4. Read elapsed hours, minutes and seconds separately from calendar dates.

Compare local date-times or add a duration. Elapsed hours reflect daylight-saving transitions in the browser’s time zone.

How the result is calculated

Elapsed seconds = (end instant − start instant) ÷ 1,000

Signed results preserve the calculation’s direction. Read the sign before comparing its magnitude. Keep the inputs and the selected convention with the output so another person can reproduce it.

How to read your result

Keep the inputs and conventions beside the answer. These values explain what the result measures.

Result fieldMeaning
Elapsed hoursA decimal duration between actual local date-time instants.
Minutes and secondsFixed-duration conversions of the same elapsed interval.
Local zoneThe browser zone that interprets the entered local date-times.
WORKED EXAMPLE

An overnight range needs its ending date

January 10 at 10:15 PM to January 11 at 6:45 AM is 8.5 elapsed hours when no clock transition occurs in that zone.

Try the example in the calculator above. Change one input at a time and compare the target, interval and selected rules. For a longer explanation read Elapsed Time Calculations: Hours, Minutes, Seconds and Overnight Ranges.

Conventions to keep with your result

The tool measures elapsed time without deducting breaks. Browser local time-zone rules apply. Decimal hours differ from clock notation: 8.5 hours means 8 hours 30 minutes.

Current dates keep moving forward. Today follows the selected calendar time zone. Rule-based Gregorian dates are generated for the requested year. A fixed input remains the visitor's chosen date. External holiday records require coverage for that year.
